Social Media, Under Construction

Find us on Social Media

Our big announcement for the day: you can now find us on social media. We have a Facebook and an Instagram, and we would love for you to follow us.

We also wanted to say how blown away we are by the response to our work. It’s not even finished yet, and still we have people visiting our site and talking about our curriculum. Thank you all for your interest, please know how much we appreciate it.

For those of you who are curious, we are Kate and Sam (plus all our friends and family and co-op group members who have made suggestions, read books, and listened to us go on and on about how frustrated we are with public library access to some of our favorite resources). We are secular homeschoolers who saw a lack of curriculum choice for people like us, and after talking about putting together something for four years, we finally embarked on the journey this summer. We hope you find something of use here!

New Science Expansions!

We want to say hello to all our new visitors. We are blown away by the interest in this program, unfinished and unadvertised as it is. Behind the scenes we are working away, so that we can continue to add to the Usra Minor Learning curriculum.

Today’s addition is the high school science expansion list. Unlike our other expansion lists, it is organized by topic instead of grade, as we are attempting to create a more integrated, Charlotte Mason inspired high school plan. Expansion lists are designed so that you can pick books in area that you or your student want more emphasis on. They also help with rabbit trails and showing the broader impact of the subject. They also make great reading lists for deep dives in particular subjects. Go check it out!

Math, Subject Sequence, Under Construction

Year 1-12 Math Sequence

For those of you who are looking for a sneak peak of the earlier grades, we posted the Y1-12 Math Sequence. This allows you to see the recommended sequence of books for a single subject, as well as expansion options for each year. Options for the main math sequence are under way and will be posted soon!

After a bit of back and forth, we are also moving primary sources to their own page for each grade. They take up a lot of real estate on the page, and for ease of reading we’ve decided to move them over the course of the next week. We don’t want anyone to be surprised by our construction dust!

Welcome to the soft open of Ursa Minor Learning. Please forgive our construction dust as we move to the new website. For those of you who are new to us, Ursa Minor Learning is a Charlotte Mason inspired home school curriculum with bits incorporated from Classical Education and our own experience. We are a secular and science focused curriculum.

In the near future, we hope to have our page focusing on Charlotte Mason inspired methodology and techniques posted. At the moment, the four high school years are posted. We are also still adding primary sources, including documents, art, and audio-visual sources to the curriculum (and trying to figure out the best way to add them to the grade pages without making them overwhelming.)

Our tentative posting schedule:

  • December 2017: Middle School Curriculum, High School Week by Week Schedule
  • March 2018: Upper Elementary Curriculum, Middle School Week by Week Schedule
  • June 2018: Early Elementary Curriculum, Upper Elementary Week by Week Schedule
  • September 2018: Masterly Inactivity Plan, Early Elementary Week by Week Schedule
  • December 2018: Autodidact and Self Learning Expansions

We hope that UML will continue to be a helpful resource for your homeschooling experience as we grow to a full K-12 curriculum.
